Writing Workshops

Play with Your Words at a Writing Workshop

In my workshops, the focus is on the creative process. Through exercises in sensory perception, free writing,
guided imagery, and associative thinking, I’ll teach you to comb the layers beneath the surface of
your subconscious to discover the gems hidden there.

Push the expanses of your imagination.
Be inspired. Let the ideas flow.

I encourage play in my writing workshops. In play, there is no judgment, just pure experience.
In the nurturing, safe environment of the workshop, where freedom and focus intermingle,
students are encouraged to explore and stretch and laugh and be silly.

Wondrous moments erupt when we play.

Begin Here – Creativite Writing Workshops

This workshop, held at the Windham, Maine Adult Ed Program, is all about allowing your creative spirit to surface in a fun, safe environment. What I mean by “safe” is that there is no judgment here, no right or wrong, no boxes or borders, just open space to create.

The format includes mini lessons in craft, writing prompts, and sharing. The goal is to have fun while you improve your writing skills. All skill levels are welcome. The creative journey is an adventure made even better by sharing it with others.

Thursday afternoons, 1:00-2:30 p.m.

Spark Your Story – Writing Workshop

In a workshop environment where everyone contributes to the process, I teach students of all levels how to be better writers and how to have fun with the writing process. We begin with observation, experience, thought, and reflection as the first steps in generating ideas. Collaboration and feedback are critical steps all along the way.

This class is for fiction and nonfiction writers who want to spark ideas for new work or develop work already in process. The format for each class includes a lesson on craft, a writing prompt and time for sharing, and a critique session for two submitted pieces each week.

Writing Workbench – Critique Group

This critique group relies on everyone participating in the feedback process. Learning to give and receive constructive feedback is an important step on the road to better writing. Constructive criticism from other writers in a structured and congenial environment will help you as you revise your drafts. When writers gather to learn and practice their craft in a supportive, engaging, and relaxed environment, magic happens.

Restore to Wonder – One-day Workshops

These one-day workshops are designed to open your senses to the moment. When we are working on a goal, we often focus on the destination and forget to savor the journey. The format will include writing prompts that inspire you to tap into your creative spirit, awaken your powers of observations, and strengthen your voice.

Coming Fall 2026 – Dates TBD

Enter a Secret Garden for a
Day of Wonder

Come with me to a place of enchantment, a secret garden where you will experience the power of silence and the awe of wonderment.

Georgia O’Keefe once said, “Nobody sees a flower, really—it is so small—we haven’t time, and to see takes time.” Using this quote as a jumping off point, this one-day writing workshop aims to help you appreciate the beauty in the ordinary and the simplicity in the extraordinary. The art of seeing deeply requires attention, curiosity, openness, and connection. Taking the time to “see” will restore you to wonder.

A Place to Write

Most classes and consultations are held at my writing studio in Gray, Maine, either in person or virtually. Words in Play, however, is not confined to four walls.

Creativity can be inspired anywhere: at a coffee shop, on the beach, or in a Tuscan olive grove. When writers gather to learn and practice writing skills in a supportive, engaging, relaxed environment, magic happens.

Whether in one-on-one consultations or group classes, the focus is on your creative needs—the only criterion is to be open to the process.

Need a place to write with some encouragement and editorial support? You can rent the studio for an hour or a day. It’s a cozy place filled with light and inspiration. Reasonable hourly rates.
