About Kristin Burgess
As a passionate educator, writer and artist, I strive to connect with my students and to adjust my teaching style to meet their needs. I believe that every student can improve his or her writing in an environment that encourages creativity and growth. My art background has been invaluable to my teaching because it allows me to approach the writing process as a creative experience that stretches beyond putting words on paper. It is about inventing and shaping a piece of writing just as a painter shapes images on a canvas. I encourage my students to reach deep inside, to find their inner imagination and allow it to do the work. When students do this, they not only inspire themselves, they inspire one another and take an active role in their education.

“Ms. Burgess adapts her teaching style to the needs of her students. She would give us different types of projects throughout the year, many of which were visual, artistic, and hands-on. This allowed each of us to do well on projects that played to our strengths.”

-Michaela Barry, 12th grade student, KRHS
